A PAK file (Pack) is a simple uncompressed archive format originally created by id Software for Quake. PAK archives store game data including maps, textures, sounds, models, and configuration files. The format is used by classic games such as Quake, Quake 2, Half-Life, and many other titles built on id Tech and GoldSrc engines.

PAK files bundle multiple game resources into a single archive without compression, prioritizing fast access speeds during gameplay. The straightforward structure of the PAK format makes it easy to create and modify game content, which has contributed to its lasting popularity in the gaming and modding communities.
